Klopp refusing to get carried away with title talk following Spurs win

Liverpool sit 16 points clear at the top of the Premier League table following a 1-0 win over Tottenham in London but manager Jurgen Klopp is refusing to get carried away with talk of winning the title.

Roberto Firmino scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute as the Reds kept their unbeaten start to the season on track.

The manager felt at full-time his side earned the three points and the score wasn't totally reflective of their performance.

"There was one team who deserved to win tonight - it was us.

"The game was not decided after fifty, sixty minutes. We had big chances and didn't score with them. We had situations where they weren't even chances at the end.

"When we play Robbo on the touchline completely free and four players in the box free and we hit the first defender that should be a chance - let's try at least and we can still miss it. It was hectic, it was very intense for us.

"It's difficult to come here - of course, you can expect a little bit that they defend deep but in this stadium it's tough."

The German felt although his side got the result they wanted, there were elements of the display that could be improved too.

"I'm over the moon about that [the result], it's really special.

"We have to talk about the performance though and there were a lot of good parts but we should have scored more goals, that's the truth.

"We have to be honest with ourselves and that's what we are."

Liverpool's points tally this season now surpasses the previous Premier League record of 59 points, set by Pep Guardiola's Manchester City in 2017/18 before they went on to win the competition.

The leaders now look well on their way to winning their first league title in 20 years.

Klopp though is refusing to get carried away with talk of the title.

"You don't get anything for best starts - the only thing we are interested in is what we can get in the summer.

"That's not done yet because this league is so strong because we face so many strong opponents.

"The moment when we have enough points that nobody can catch us anymore then we start talking about it, until then I couldn't be less interested."
