First Division Round-up: Drogheda United and Cobh Ramblers reach playoffs

Drogheda United and Cobh Ramblers have qualified for the League of Ireland promotion playoffs.

Both sides enjoyed wins to finish second and third respectively in the 2016 First Division table.

Drogheda defeated UCD 2-1 at home thanks to goals from Mark Griffin and Adam Wixted, either side of a Mark Langtry finish for the Students.

UCD finish fourth in the second tier as a result, missing out on the playoffs by just two points.

Meanwhile, Eoin McGreevy and Matthew Whelan got the goals as Cobh won 2-0 at Athlone Town.

They will now take on Drogheda in two playoff legs, with the winner on aggregate then facing the 11th placed Premier Division side for a place in next season's top flight.

Meanwhile, First Division champions Limerick finished the season with a win at Cabinteely thanks to Sean Russell's 65th minute header.

Shelbourne finished the season with a home defeat as Waterford United took three points with a 1-0 victory thanks to Owen Wall goal.

Shelbourne finish the season sixth out of eighth in the table, with Waterford fifth.
