League of Ireland Round-Up: Cork City go top and Bohemians stage comeback

Cork City have gone top of the League of Ireland Premier Division.

John Caulfield's side secured a 4-1 win away at Drogheda United to make it nine points from nine, also seeing off a side that had won their opening two games in the process.

The prolific Sean Maguire opened the scoring for Cork before ex-Ireland and Sunderland striker Stephen Elliott levelled for Drogheda on 16 minutes.

However, Drogheda went down to 10 men less than 20 minutes into the match as Richie Purdy saw red and five minutes before half-time, Gearoid Morrissey gave Cork a 2-1 lead.

Second half goals from Karl Sheppard and Connor Ellis saw the away side run out comfortable winners.

Meanwhile, the winners of the last three league titles, Dundalk have also joined Cork City in winning their opening three games as they beat Limerick 1-0. Patrick McEleney got the winner for Stephen Kenny's side as the Lilywhites go second behind Cork on goal difference.

Ryan McBride struck on 67 minutes to give 10-man Derry City a 1-0 away win at Shamrock Rovers.

Lukas Schubert was sent off late on but the Candystripes held on at Tallaght Stadium.

Finn Harps and Galway United got their first point of the season apiece after a 1-1 draw in Ballybofey.

Kevin Devaney cancelled out the Harps opener by Sean Houston.

It was the same story for Sligo Rovers and St Patrick's Athletic who ended their losing run in a 1-1 draw.

Kieran Sadlier scored for the home side while the Pats equaliser came by way of Michael Barker's goal.

Bohemians started the season with two defeats on the trot and were facing a Bray Wanderers side that had won two from two.

And it looked bad for Bohs at one point as goals from John Sullivan and Dylan Connolly had Bray 2-0 up.

But Bohs fought back with Dinny Corcoran and Keith Ward goals to make it 2-2. The comeback wasn't over as Corcoran got his second of the game to win it 3-2 at Dalymount Park.

There was also action in the First Division as a Davy O'Sullivan hat-trick gave Longford Town a 3-0 win at Athlone Town in tonight's Midlands derby.

Joe Doyle scored twice in Cabinteely's 2-0 home win over Wexford.

Patrick McClean and Tom Smith found the net for Waterford as they defeated their hosts UCD 2-0.
