League of Ireland Round-up: Cork City top as Derry City thwart Dundalk

Cork City have beaten Sligo Rovers 2-1 to make it four wins from four to go three points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

John Caulfield's side are the only side to have fulfilled all four of their fixtures to still have a 100% record in the 2017 Premier Division.

They had to come from behind against Sligo Rovers who took a 64th minute lead through Kieran Sadlier.

Cork responded immediately with an equaliser from Steven Beattie, before striker Sean Maguire continued his exemplary form with his fourth goal in four games to make it 2-1 with 15 minutes to go.

Sligo remain rooted to the bottom of the table with one point from a possible 12.

An abandoned game 10 days ago against Limerick means Derry City have not played four games yet. But they have now won three of their first three fixtures.

And tonight was a big win for the Candystripes as they saw off champions Dundalk 3-1 at Maginn Park.

Dane Massey gave Dundalk an early lead but Nathan Boyle, Barry McNamee and Ryan McBride scored in the 44th, 69th and 84th to give Kenny Shiels' team a win that moves them level on points with Dundalk on nine points.

Derry go above Stephen Kenny's side on goal difference to occupy second spot.

Joining Derry and Dundalk on nine points are Bray Wanderers who got back to winning ways by beating Drogheda United 2-1.

Aaron Greene and Dylan Connolly scored within 21 minutes to put Bray in control before Ciaran McGuigan pulled one back prior to half time.

Bohemians made it two wins on the bounce with a 1-0 win at Limerick to climb up to seventh. Dinny Corcoran got the winner on 50 minutes.

St Patrick's Athletic remain 10th after Liam Buckley's side suffered their third defeat in four games against Finn Harps in a 2-1 result at Richmond Park.

Graham Kelly gave Pats a very early lead but that was wiped out by Sean Houston and Ciaran O'Connor for the away side.

Shamrock Rovers are fifth after a 2-1 win at struggling Galway United in the earlier kick off.

Gary Shaw's brace for Rovers overcame Ronan Murray's goal shortly before the hour.
