Leeds United on the verge of Premier League return after dramatic late win

Leeds United are nearing a return to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation since the 2003-2004 season, after a 1-0 win over Swansea.

Leeds' 90th-minute winner from Pablo Hernandez sealed the victory at the Liberty Stadium, on an emotional day for the club.

The Whites wore training kits in memory of the late Jack Charlton, who passed away on Friday after succumbing to illness.

The victory leaves Leeds six points clear of third-placed Brentford, whose remarkable run of form makes the situation far from over in the eyes of the fans.

Leeds United's manager, Marcelo Bielsa, tried to keep fans' and pundits' feet on the ground after a win that keeps them top of the Championship with just three games to go.

“I cannot enjoy this,” Bielsa said. “What you feel just is that you are taking a step forward. The only thing I can enjoy is the last objective, if we get it.

“The match was very close, very narrow, few chances. When the match progressed our possibilities were growing and in the last 30 minutes I think we deserved to score and to make the difference.”

The emotion of the victory was not lost on Bielsa.

“What we feel is taking the steps we have to take,” Bielsa said. “But of course when you score at the end of the match it’s a higher feeling. The bigger emotion we didn’t get that yet.”

Even with the manner of the win, the Leeds boss was keen to pay tribute to Charlton, Leeds' record appearance holder, following his death.

“The legends of the club deserve big attention from us,” Bielsa said. “But I don’t want to take the risk to talk about the victory and the loss of a person. I don’t want to link those two things.”
