Leicester City midfielder subjected to racist abuse after Liverpool game

Leicester City have reported racist abuse to the police after one of their players was targeted online after Saturday's game against Liverpool.

Midfielder Hamza Choudhury was subjected to abuse online after his foul on Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

The 22-year-old is of mixed Bangladeshi-Grenadian descent and people targeted his heritage as a way to abuse him on Twitter after the game.

In a statement, Leicester City said, "Discriminatory behaviour has no place in football or in society.

"We will seek the strongest course of action against those responsible.

"We are appalled by these comments, which the club has reported to the police and to the social media platform on which they were made."

The Egyptian forward had to go off due to injury after the tackle and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was convinced Choudhury should have been sent off for the tackle.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Klopp said: “He should know better, you cannot only go for the man [and receive] a yellow card.”

However, former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers defended his player saying: "The emotion of the game, it might seem worse than it was.

"He is an honest boy, Hamza. He makes challenges, he’s aggressive, but I don’t think there was anything malicious," Rodgers said.
