"Leicester's place at the top is important for the Premier League" - George Caulkin

Leicester City lead the Premier League with 14 games remaining in the season and regardless of the outcome, their story will go down in the history books as one of the most remarkable seen in English football.

Speaking on Thursday night's Off The Ball, the Times' George Caulkin spoke about the importance of their rise and their ability to capture the imagination of the neutral fan.

"Nobody quite wants to say [they can win the league], that's what the feeling has been for the last couple of days" he said.

"I know it's a cliche to say it, but there really was a buzz around the place. That feeling of positivity and optimism is infectious, especially when it's not expected like this."

Claudio Ranieri has been credited with catapulting the team into a title challenge and Caulkin said that the players have been performing at their very best, becauseof the environment that they're in.

"One of the people I've spoken to, Foxes Fanzine editor, Gary Silk, he said that a lot of the big boys are circling around our players now. But could it be that they're in a special team at the moment, would it be different if they went to bigger clubs?

"You can make that point, but there's been a sort of alchemy that's happened this year at Leicester that nobody can quite put their finger on."

He added that their position is important to challenging the hierarchy of the Premier League.

"For all the bluster and hyperbole, it can be a very dull league in the sense that if it's the same teams year upon year fighting for the same trophies. It's been really exciting seeing a different team up there mixing with them."
