Lily Agg receives first Ireland call-up ahead of Sweden qualifier

Lily Agg has been called into the Republic of Ireland squad for the first time.

The 28-year-old midfielder - who is a native of Brighton - qualifies to represent Ireland through her Cork-born grandmother.

Agg currently plays with the London City Lionesses and is one of 27 players included.

Injury rules out the likes of Diane Caldwell and Savannah McCarthy, but Chloe Mustaki and Abbie Larkin retain their places having made their debuts last month.

Ireland face Sweden in a crucial qualifier on Tuesday week in Gothenburg, trailing their opponents by eight points.

The Swedes - ranked number two in the world - lie on a maximum of 15 points from their five games to date.

Ireland have seven points from their four matches.

The group winner will progress directly to next year's tournament, while the runners-up will earn a play-off spot.

The Irish squad will report to camp next Tuesday, before flying to Sweden on Saturday week.
