"It's some of the Liverpool fans who are bottling this" - Gareth Roberts

Dismissing the notion that the club's players are struggling under the strain of a Premier League run-in, The Anfield Wrap's Gareth Roberts has suggested it is a section of Liverpool fans who are "bottling it" under the pressure.

"It's the fans who need to keep their nerve here," Roberts stated on Monday's OTB AM.

"It's some of our fans who are bottling it for me, not Liverpool as a group of players or the manager.

However, Roberts was keen to stress that although a certain number of Liverpool fans are struggling, reports of widespread nerves among the fan-base have been exaggerated.

"I don't know if I'd go as far to say it's mischief-making," Roberts stated, "but this is the way the media is."

"It looks for negativity. It sells newspapers and it get clicks if it says Liverpool are in crisis, Liverpool have blown it or bottled it.

"I think that Leicester game was the only one really where there was a huge amount of nerves around the ground.

"Since then, the atmospheres have been good.

With the Premier League season entering its final number of games, Roberts has called on the Liverpool fans to build upon this in the coming months.

"We need to keep backing the side," Roberts urged.

"Even things on social media, it all the counts.

"The players look at that and they're only human as well.

"So if they see us as a collective having a massive wobble, saying 'that's it, we've blown it,' that could creep into their minds.

"Liverpool have done brilliantly [this season], and we've still got nine games and 27-points to play for.

"We're in a great place and it's a brilliant opportunity to win the league still."

After the weekend's 0-0 draw with Everton, Jurgen Klopp's side will next face Burnley on Sunday afternoon.
