Liverpool linked with German World Cup winner Mario Gotze

Germany and Bayern Munich attacker Mario Gotze may be on his way to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old scored the winning goal against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup Final and German newspaper Bild are reporting that Liverpool are interested in the star.

Gotze began his career at Borussia Dortmund, under Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. He was part of the Dortmund side that won the Bundesliga in 2011 and 2012. The following year he was part of the team that lost the Champions League final to Bayern Munich in Wembley.

That summer he joined Bayern Munich on a free transfer, and since then he has won a further two league titles with Pep Guardiola's side. Despite featuring regularly over the past two seasons, he has played only 11 times this season.

If Gotze were to join Liverpool this month, he could be Klopp's first major signing at the club. Earlier this week, Serbian teenager Marko Grujic was the first player to join Liverpool in the Klopp era but was immediately loaned back to former club Red Star Belgrade until the end of the season.
