Luis Suárez claims his stamp on Valencia player was accidental

Valencia managed a draw against league leaders Barcelona on Saturday, as the Uruguayan striker found the back of the net for his team.

Luis Suárez has had a fantastic start to the season at Barcelona, stepping up and scoring or assisting almost all of his side's goals in the absence of Lionel Messi.

Messi's return has seen Barcelona in even more scintillating form, but on the weekend they came up against a resolute Valencia side who put their front trio to the test.

They did eventually break past the back line to score, as a brilliant touch and run from Suárez saw him get through the defence and finish past Jaume in the Valencia goal.

Moments before that, however, Suarez was involved in an incident with defender Aymen Abdennour that left the Valencia player with a bruised foot for his troubles. He took to Instagram to share an image of his foot and a couple of other war wounds from having been involved in a tough match against the former Liverpool striker.

Suárez has since stated that the stamp on his opponent was accidental, as he told reporters after the match that "I did not stand on Abdennour's foot on purpose. I turned around, I stepped on him and that is why I apologised".

Valencia eventually pulled level, but there was a suggestion that Suárez's goal was offside. However, afterwards, manager Luis Enrique was claiming that he wasn't convinced of the foul or the offside, mainly because he didn't see it: "I'm no MacGyver. I can't see everything and do everything. I've still not seen the goal, or the incident. I am good, but not that good".
