Marc Wilson ruled out of Euro 2016

Marc Wilson will miss Ireland's Euro 2016 campaign this summer in France after Martin O'Neill ruled the defender out due to injury.

Wilson, 28, was named in the provisional 35-man-squad for the European Championships but will not return in time to be included in the final squad.

The Stoke City defender has struggled to regain full fitness after struggling with a knee injury this season.

"Marc Wilson has had a setback. The best thing for him is to take four or five weeks off. He will be out," O'Neill told a press conference in Dublin today.

Wilson last featured for Ireland during their 1-1 draw in Bosnia back in November.  Paul McShane, Alex Pearce, Anthony Pilkington and Jonathan Hayes have all been place on standby as O'Neill begins to trim his final squad.
