Marc Wilson's Euro 2016 hopes could be over after suffering knee injury

Marc Wilson could miss Euro 2016 after sustaining a knee injury during Stoke's 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup at the weekend.

The Irish international has suffered what Stoke manager, Mark Hughes, referred to as "suspected medial ligament damage" that could rule him out for up to 12 weeks meaning a race to be fit and ready to feature in Martin O'Neill's plans in France during the summer.

Hughes said, “Marc’s down at the moment, as you would expect. He’s looking forward to the European Championship which is what he wants to be involved in at the end of this season so I’m not sure if his injury will make him a doubt for that, we hope not.”

Wilson is currently the fourth or fifth choice centre-back at Stoke but had been getting a run of games considering the congested schedule the club have been involved in over the past few weeks. The 28-year-old started Stoke's recent 3-0 defeat to Leicester City.

Wilson has featured 24 times for Ireland since making his debut in 2011 against Wales.
