Marcus Rashford insists that Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney's international career is "nowhere near over".
The teenager is part of the England squad preparing to take on Scotland at Hampden Park this weekend, while Rooney has been left out of a second successive squad by manager Gareth Southgate.
Despite the snub, Rashford reckons England's record goalscorer is more than capable of working his way back into the squad.
"The ability he has and the things he can do on and off the field, he's still got a lot to do in his career," he said at Wednesday's press conference.
"Knowing Wayne, [his international career] is nowhere near over."
The 19-year-old complimented Rooney on his attitude whilst on duty with his club and country, claiming he still had a lot to learn from the 31-year-old.
"The way they [Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic] think, their mentality toward the game. That's the biggest thing I can take from them. With those type of players, whether they're here for the next five years or however long it is, you never stop learning from them."
Of his own inclusion into the first team, Rashford said: "It's a decision that [Southgate] had to make that is the benefit of England as a country and me as a player. I just wait for him to make that decision.
"I'm thankful he has made that decision and I'm happy to be here with the seniors. I'm looking forward to continuing my development and I'm happy we're on the same page."
He added: "When you come away with England there's always competition for places and it's always good competition. You always improve and continue in your development."
