Miguel Delaney believes players have turned on Van Gaal and Pep has done research on United job

Miguel Delaney believes some Manchester United players have turned on Louis van Gaal with stories coming out of Old Trafford becoming increasingly negative.

Delaney joined Off The Ball and explained how it was a common knowledge that the Spanish contingent felt Van Gaal's style was inhibiting the creative instinct of many players.

Delaney also explains how he has heard from several sources that there were words in the dressing room after some of United's previous games and that some players have even gone to club officials to complain about their manager.

The London-based journalist believes Van Gaal has, "almost become a comedy figures with how he deals with dissent. He is not receptive to any feedback whatsoever."

Many of the German journalists who saw a similar story of Van Gaal at Bayern Munich are now watching from afar with a familiar sense of how this will all end at Old Trafford. Delaney explains how they are, "chuckling about what they were seeing because it is exactly what they had seen in 2010 and he left [Bayern] in April."

Delaney understands that United are interested in Pep and the Spanish manager has even grilled colleagues over the Manchester United job to gather information but that "City are immensely confident, and have a three year head start on United to land Pep."

Delaney does concede that United have a more "pressing need" for a magical coach like Guardiola and that City would do better without him based on their structure, their transfer policy and the strength of their academy.

The relationship between Txiki Begiristain and Guardiola is very strong, however, and that assurances have been made to City's Director of Football regarding the future.
