Miller back in Cork 'to win the league'

Former Ireland midfielder Liam Miller says he’s “delighted to be returning home” after Cork City announced his signing this morning.

The Leesiders say the 33-year-old ex-Manchester United and Celtic star has agreed a contract and he “is expected to join his new team mates for pre-season training later in the month”.

Miller was capped 21 times and has also lined out with Sunderland and Leeds. He has spent the last three-and-a-half year playing in the Australian A-League.

“I am delighted to be returning home,” Miller told City’s website. “I will be proud to wear the Cork City jersey and do what I can for the team in front of all my family and friends."

Asked about his targets for the season, the Ballincollig man stated bluntly: “To win the league.”

City boss John Caulfield: “We are delighted to sign Liam. Something developed over the last few weeks and it is a real marquee signing for us to get a player of Liam’s quality.

“He has been playing at the highest level in Australia, winning a league medal there last May.

“Having a Cork lad like Liam coming home is a major signing and a big boost for us at the start of pre-season."
