Nicola Sturgeon brands Rangers fans 'disgraceful' after they break Covid-19 restrictions

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has branded Rangers fans 'disgraceful' and has told them to 'go home' after they broke lockdown rules to celebrate the club's success over the weekend.

Rangers won their 55th Scottish Premiership title on Sunday after Celtic dropped points away to Dundee United.

They also ended the Bhoys hopes of winning a record-breaking 10th league title in a row.

Sturgeon has taken to Twitter to condemn the fans who have taken to the streets to celebrate in droves over the weekend, particularly on Sunday.

She branded the scenes outside Ibrox Stadium and in George Square “infuriating and disgraceful” as hundreds of supporters flouted the current Covid-19 restrictions which ban mass gatherings.

Officers were forced to escort hundreds of supporters away from Ibrox on Sunday afternoon with Police Scotland confirming that a small number of arrests and fines were issued.

Police for the Greater Glasgow Division have said they are "continuing to police the ongoing gatherings of football supporters in both George Square and outside Ibrox Stadium today (Sunday, 7 March, 2021).

“Public safety remains our utmost priority and I would again remind fans that, in line with the current Scottish Government Coronavirus guidelines, all gatherings are currently restricted."
