Now we know the reasons that led to Jose Mourinho's stadium ban

The latest twist in the tale of Mourinho's ban reveals that a litany of disciplinary offences including acting aggressively towards referees, prompted the English Football Association to implement a more severe sentence on the 52 year-old.

Financial penalties and touchline bans were deemed to be insufficient punishments by the FA, as a means of stimulating Mourinho to correct his manner on the sideline.

The FA considered several aspects of Mourinho's history of misconduct since his return to Stamford Bridge in 2013. These included four separate incidents of indiscipline which resulted in financial sanctions over the last two years. Naturally, Mourinho's actions during the half-time period of the game against West Ham, were also appreciated in determining this final decision.

A written statement was published yesterday evening, detailing the association's reasons for the sentence. The document highlight's Mourinho's 'disappointing record of misconduct to date' and labelled his behavior as 'aggressive.' A referee's report from Chelsea's 2-1 defeat to West Ham last month was also included in the report.

In it, Mourinho is described to have called officials 'f*****g weak' and acted in an aggressive manner towards them after being invited into their dressing-room area. Referee Jon Moss wrote about his recollection of Mourinho's rant as well as his references to Arsène Wenger:

'I gave him brief answers to his questions. After this I asked him to leave the dressing room area. He refused. I asked him again. After he refused again I asked Mr Sutton to escort him from the room. At this point Mr Mourinho became very aggressive and animated. He shouted that you f*****g referees are weak . . . [Arsène] Wenger is right about you . . . you are f*****g weak. I advised Mr Mourinho not to take his position in the technical area for the second half due to his actions.'

Mourinho admitted to the charge of misconduct which was acknowledged at the time of sentencing, but it was felt that his 'total lack of respect for the Match Officials and the sanctuary of the dressing room' warranted something less lenient than a touchline ban.

It is believed that the Chelsea manager will travel with the team to the Britannia Stadium where they will then part ways for the remainder of the fixture. When asked where he intends to watch the game, Mourinho responded:

'I have no plans. Maybe I sit in the street corner with my iPad. I don't know. Maybe I watch a movie.'
