Ollie Horgan reflects on why his Finn Harps' side suffered relegation

For Finn Harps, unfortunately this season has resulted in relegation from the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division.

The Donegal club still have a game to play against Bohemians to close out the season but that will be purely academic as the drop has already been confirmed for Ollie Horgan's side.

The Harps manager joined us to talk about the disappointing culmination to a season that was always going to be about trying to avoid relegation.

"We were hanging by a straw to put it that way. We'd have loved to have got it to the last game of the season and see whatever happened then," he said.

"But we ended up getting relegated a week earlier."

Horgan saw the results that confirmed Harps' relegation by looking at the scores on his phone. But he felt the slide down to the First Division had become inevitable.

"It might have been inevitable with the last couple of weeks to put it that way," he said.

"We stayed with the chasing pack at the bottom for quite a long length of time. To be fair to the teams around us, they strengthened heavily in the window to their credit. We really didn't have the capability of doing that and that's no criticism whatsoever to the teams that were then around us. They strengthened very, very wisely and kicked on. We found it difficult to bridge that gap and to be fair the gap got bigger and we had a few injuries that didn't help and basically a loss of confidence if you're on the run that you're on."

He added that "the games ran out for us" and the "table doesn't lie".

"I think the other teams around us got better and we didn't and that's really it in a nutshell," he said, before talking about how the club plans to bounce back and the financial implications of relegation.
