Paddy Mulligan: "First person gone from the club" under next Man United boss should be Ryan Giggs

Ex-Ireland full-back Paddy Mulligan believes Manchester United's next manager should let Ryan Giggs leave the club to learn his trade before returning to Old Trafford in the future.

The former one-club winger is assistant to current manager Louis van Gaal and has been tipped as a potential successor to the Dutchman.

But Paddy believes whoever follows Van Gaal should pick out Giggs as the first person to leave.

He told The Rewind: "The first thing I'd do if I was the manager in line for that Man United job, the first person gone from the club would be Ryan Giggs. Let him go off and learn the trade.

"Get out into the big, bad world and see what it's all like. Gary Neville is now finding all this out at Valencia, sitting in a studio - as we are now as well - and pontificating about what should be done."

Paddy also shared his surprise that Chelsea have not looked to tie down long-time captain John Terry to a new contract and believes letting him go would "damage" the club.
