Pat Nevin on why Walcott should be Arsenal's main option up front

Pat Nevin is backing Theo Walcott to be the man to regularly lead Arsenal's forward line from now on this season.

The England international scored in the 5-2 win over Leicester City on Saturday, as he climbs above Olivier Giroud in the pecking order.

"I've been saying all along, I think Walcott's the man you put up there. I don't have many people agreeing with me - yet - but certainly what he does is score a decent amount of goals purely because of his pace," said Pat on Off The Ball tonight.

"But it's not just that. The most important thing for Arsenal is, if you play him up top and he just runs it long as often as he can what it does is it stretches every defence he plays against because everyone is scared of his pace. And when you do that, the three guys (Sanchez, Ozil and Ramsey) behind, they get more space."

Pat also believes that Walcott needs to slow down once he's on goal given that his pace already gives him an advantage.

Meanwhile, Pat branded Aleksandar Kolarov's performance at left-back for Manchester City in their 4-1 defeat to Tottenham as "laughable" and gave his take on what is afflicting a team that was previously in flying form.
