Player Ratings: Ireland 1-0 Georgia

Darren Randolph - 7
Hadn’t much to do in the game. Controlled the pace of the game well and was nice to see him playing the ball out through the back more.

Seamus Coleman - 7
A solid performance from the Irish skipper, showing why Mick McCarthy opted for him at right-back instead of the in-form Matt Doherty. Got up and down the wing well and got dangerous balls into the six-yard box.

Shane Duffy - 6
Solid as usual. Comfortable on the ball and a threat in the air. Got caught under a high ball near the end of the first half, which almost resulted in a goal.

Richard Keogh - 7
Did most of the defending as Duffy swept in behind and wasn’t fazed by it. A strong performance from the Derby County man.

Enda Stevens - 6
Definitely our best option at left-back. Had a few wayward passes and was a little too eager going forward at times. Was under more pressure in the second half as McClean pushed on further and dealt with it well.

Glenn Whelan - 6
Replaced Matt Doherty in the middle of the field. Provided the cover for Hourihane and Hendrick to get forward a bit more.

Jeff Hendrick - 7
Playing the right of a midfield three suited him. Worked hard and connected well with Hourihane. Won the free-kick for Hourihane’s opener. Almost had his name on the scoresheet, but it was ruled out for offside.

Robbie Brady - 6
Came into the starting line-up after his display off the bench in Gibraltar. Worked hard but still looks to be lacking in match-fitness.

James McClean - 6
Usual workhorse performance down the left hand side. Whipped in some nice crosses and drew some good fouls from the Georgia defence.

David McGoldrick - 8
Man of the Match. Made some excellent runs in behind the defence and was calm in possession when he did receive it. Hooked up well with the midfielders and was a strong presence as Ireland’s lone striker. Received a standing ovation from the Irish fans when he was substituted on 80 minutes.

Conor Hourihane- 8
Scored a brilliant free-kick to open the scoring on 35 minutes. Got on the ball well and created plenty chances. Looks like he will become increasingly important for Ireland going forward.

Mick McCarthy - 7

Made the tough call to drop Matt Doherty and opt for a three-man midfield. The risk paid off as Ireland looked comfortable in possession and confident in their ability.
