Premier League Roundup: Rodgers sacked after Merseyside derby draw, Arsenal stun United

The big news of the day was the decision by Liverpool to part company with their manager, after a disappointing draw in the Merseyside Derby

Everton 1-1 Liverpool

Brendan Rodgers' time at Anfield has come to an end, and despite getting close to the title and finishing in second the season before last, the people at the top have called an end to the "Broject".

They took the lead in the game shortly before half time through a Danny Ings goal from a set piece, but were unable to hold on to that lead to until the break, as Romelu Lukaku struck back for the Toffees with an equaliser

The second half never really got going, and aside from some tackles that resulted in yellow cards, the rest of the game was defined by its lack of rhythm.

A few hours after the final whistle, it was announced that Rodgers time at the club had come to an end, as he became the second manager of the weekend to leave his job following Dick Advocaat's resignation earlier on Sunday.

Swansea 2-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Christian Eriksen inspired his side to a draw against Swansea with two fantastic free kicks, and certainly helped to take some pressure off striker Harry Kane, whose own goal looked like it could have cost his side the opportunity at getting any points at one stage during the game.

Andrew Ayew got Swansea off the mark with an early header, but Eriksen drew his side level from a set piece that perhaps Fabianski could have been a little bit better placed to save.

The moment that could have turned the match was Harry Kane slicing a low corner from Jonjo Shelvey into the back of his own net, but it was the Dane who popped up again with another free to bail his team-mate out of trouble.

Garry Monk will probably be the more disappointed that his side were unable to hold on to the lead, and while they looked very impressive during the early part of the season, they are hitting somewhat of a slump in form at the moment.

Arsenal 3-0 Manchester United

Arsenal raced into an early lead in this game that proved to be far too much for Manchester United to overcome. Ozil set up Sanchez for the first goal, and then turned scorer for the second, which left Van Gaal's plan for the game in tatters and the defenders looking for someone to blame.

With just 20 minutes gone on the clock, they wrapped up the points with a third goal from Sanchez again, which put the gloss on a scoreline that left little doubt about who was the better side.

Van Gaal made changes in the second half, but it was too little, too late for the Dutchman's side. They were outclassed by Wenger's team, whose style of one-touch passing and intricate football really exposed the weaknesses of a backline that lacks pace and didn't seek to impose themselves physically on the opposition
