Premier League Round-up: Stalemate in North London while Klopp tastes first defeat

Arsenal 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

A late Kieran Gibbs equaliser was enough to rescue a North London derby point for Arsenal after Harry Kane's first half goal had Spurs leading.

In a highly entertaining game, it was a wonder that the game only finished with a goal apiece as both Hugo Loris and Petr Cech were called into action a number of times.

A scrappy opening quarter saw Arsenal on top with chances at a premium, but the first real opportunity fell the way of Eric Dier, who could only nod Christian Eriksen's inch perfect ball the wrong side of the post.

Spurs didn't have to wait long however, as Danny Rose clipped a ball through, catching Per Mertesacker out of position, for Harry Kane and the English international made no mistake when one on one with Cech.

Derby tempers began to flare as Olivier Giroud went down off the ball after tussling with Jan Vertonghen, before the Frenchman decided to exact revenge by barging into the back of the Belgian defender in an incident that was remarkably reminiscent of Didier Drogba and Jens Lehmann a number of years ago.

In the second half, Giroud was presented with a number of golden opportunities to level but he couldn't do any better than hit the crossbar.

Eventually, an equaliser came through the unlikeliest of sources as Gibbs, only just on the pitch, bundled home Mesut Ozil's cross.

The result leaves Arsenal ties with City at the top Spurs move into fifth and three points behind Manchester United.

Liverpool 1-2 Crystal Palace

Liverpool's bogey team struck again and gave Jurgen Klopp his first taste of defeat as the Reds manager, after Scott Dann's late header at Anfield.

Goals from Yannick Bolasie and Dann either side of Phillipe Coutinho's leveler near the end of the first half were enough to give Palace their third ever win at Anfield.

In another very entertaining game, play flowed from one end to another with two of the Premier Leagues most animated managers lighting up the sideline.

A watching Steven Gerrard wasn't enough to inspire Liverpool as they fell behind in the 21st minute after Bolasie took advantage of some sloppy defending.

The Congolese hitman capitalised on Emre Can's poor clearance to fire past Simon Mignolet and give the Liverpool fans a familiar sense of Deja Vù.

Liverpool kicked on after conceding with Jordan Ibe and Nathaniel Clyne impressing down the right all day, and the two combined for the equaliser before Adam Lallana teed up Coutinho to slot home.

In a cracking second half of football, both sides went in search of a winner and it came from a Palace set piece with eight minutes remaining.

The result sees Palace jump ahead of Liverpool to eight while the Reds slip into tenth position.

Aston Villa 0-0 Manchester City

It was an encouraging start for Remi Garde's reign at Aston Villa as the side rooted to the bottom of the table frustrated the league leaders in a scoreless draw.

The emphasis was on protecting the goal for Villa, as they offered little in attack, with Ciaran Clark and Micah Richards admirably leading the charge from the back.

The stalemate halts a run of seven straight defeats for Villa but they will be thankful for City's profligacy in front of goal, with Aleksandar Kolarov, Raheem Sterling and Kevin DeBruyne all guilty of missing chances, while Fernando did hit the crossbar.

Jesus Navas was brilliant down the right wing and was the source of City's chances on multiple occasions, despite only making the bench for the start of the game.

There may have been no goals but the return of Fabian Delph to Villa Park probably raised the loudest decibel level of the day, with the Villa faithful letting their feelings known to their former captain.

The result is enough to keep City level on points with Arsenal at the top, while Villa remain rooted to the bottom but with a slightly better outlook on life.
