QPR's John Eustace appointed as Republic of Ireland assistant coach

John Eustace has been added to Stephen Kenny's Republic of Ireland coaching staff.

The former Coventry City, Watford and Derby County midfielder will replace Anthony Barry, who left to join the Belgium set-up last month.

Eustace is currently employed at Championship club QPR, where he is assistant manager to Mark Warburton.

The Englishman made over 150 appearances for Watford between 2008 and 2013.

His coaching career at QPR has also included a stint as caretaker boss, following the dismissal of Steve McClaren.

Eustace was in charge for seven games, as he guided the London club to Championship safety, while also had a spell in charge at Kidderminster Harriers.

QPR are currently eighth in the table.

Eustace will stay in his role at club level, while he'll link up with the Republic of Ireland during international windows.

Following confirmation of his appointment, Eustace said: "I'm delighted to join the Republic of Ireland coaching staff and excited to link up with the squad this week for the matches against Belgium and Lithuania.

"The opportunity to join Stephen Kenny's coaching staff is an exciting prospect and I'm looking forward to working with this young group of players.”

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny welcomed the new addition to his coaching staff.

“John has been assistant manager with Queens Park Rangers for four years and has established himself as an accomplished and well-respected coach.

"He is an excellent addition to the coaching team and we’re looking forward to linking up for the two matches against Belgium and Lithuania, and for the season ahead.”

Ireland will train later on today (Monday) as they begin their preparations for the clash with Belgium on Saturday.

They then play Lithuania next Tuesday, with both games at the Aviva Stadium.
