Raheem Sterling is back at Liverpool training

Raheem Sterling appears to have re-entered the Liverpool fold after attending a pre-season training session this morning. Sterling had called in sick for two sessions this week as uncertainty surrounding his future at the club grows.

Manchester City are the main pursuers of the attacker’s services with a £40m bid having been already turned down by the Anfield club, who value the 20 year-old at £50m.

Liverpool begin their pre-season tour of south-east Asia and Australia on Sunday and whether or not Sterling will travel with the squad remains to be seen.

Former Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, expressed his disappointment at the situation:

“He needs to go in and see the owners. You don’t have to throw in illness, or refuse to go on tour. There are millions of Liverpool fans waiting to see Raheem pull on a Liverpool shirt. It looks very disappointing from where I’m sat. The fans have shown him great support, they want him to stay and I believe that he should too” he said.

Meanwhile, Jordan Henderson has been announced as Gerrard’s successor as club captain. Henderson is about to commence his fifth season with club and the honour is something of a promotion for the Englishman, having served as vice-captain last season and has already wore the armband on 19 occasions.
