Roddy Collins: 'Ray Treacy was a good man and a fella I admired'

At the weekend, Irish football mourned the loss of former Republic of Ireland striker Ray Treacy.

The 68-year-old passed away following illness and tonight on Off The Ball, Roddy Collins, Stuart Byrne and former League of Ireland striker Stephen Geoghegan paid tribute to the former Shamrock Rovers manager.

"I remember Ray really well. He was a really, really good man and a fella I really admired and looked up to in his playing days as well. When I was in the international youth squad, he was in there with Johnny Giles and Eamon Dunphy and he was brilliant to me as a striker helping me and advising me. He was a man's man," said Roddy.

In his teens, Stuey played for Shamrock Rovers' youth and reserve teams at Treacy's behest.

Stuey described him as "charismatic" and "nice to be around".

Meanwhile, Geoghegan recalled playing for Treacy's Rovers in the early '90s and felt it was a period which helped turn his career around as he finished top scorer in the 1993-94 league winning season.

Stuey and Roddy also reviewed the latest action in the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division including Sligo Rovers' first win of the campaign and Bray Wanderers' good form under their new caretaker manager.
