Reports: Shane Keegan to be named new Galway United boss

Shane Keegan is set to be appointed the new manager of Galway United, according to the Connacht Tribune.

The paper claims the current Wexford Youth's supremo will head west with the announcement set to be made on Monday.

Galway finished 9th in the 2016 season on 38 points after winning 10, drawing 8 and losing 15 of their matches.

Keegan is currently in charge of Wexford Youths, who have the crucial second leg of their promotion/relegation play-off against Drogheda later this evening. Wexford go into the game with a 2-0 aggregate advantage.

Galway have been on the look-out for a new manager since Tommy Dunne left the club over a month ago. There had been speculation that either Ian McPartland and former Sligo boss Mickey Adams were favourites for the job but it appears Keegan will get the nod instead.

Wexford have had a poor season winning 6 and drawing 5 of their 33 matches. The 22 games they lost left them with a total of 23 points and a negative goal difference of 39.

At 34, Keegan is one of the youngest managers in the league and will be looking to sign off at Wexford by keeping them in the league for the start of the 2017 campaign.
