Richard Dunne puts microscope on Ireland approach versus Iceland

Former Ireland defender Richard Dunne feels there wasn't a clear attacking game plan as the Boys in Green lost to Iceland on Tuesday night.

One goal separated the sides at the Aviva Stadium with both Ireland and Iceland fielding relatively experimental sides.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Dunne gave his take on the approach from the home side.

"You could see last night it didn't seem like they had a game plan going into the match. The difference between the two sides was massive," he said.

"I wouldn't say man for man Iceland had a better team but certainly they were better on the night because of the tactics they had there. They had two hard working centre forwards, they had good midfielders on the ball, who were comfortable on the ball and wanted to pass it forward and wanted to follow their passes.

"They knew what they wanted to do and when they brought subs on, they all knew the plan and they all stuck to it. They looked comfortable all night and we were just going left, right, centre and see where we could break anyone down but without ever threatening anyone."

He also added that a "spark was missing last night".
