Roberto Carlos reckons Cristiano Ronaldo already has the Ballon d'Or at home

Taking into account victories in the Champions League and European Championships, 2016 has been a pretty good year for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese star scored the winning penalty to beat rivals Atletico Madrid and earned Real Madrid an 11th European Cup.

His three goals in the European Championships, including a decisive header against Wales in the semi-final, were enough to see him move level with Michel Platini as the all-time leading goalscorer at the tournament and help Portugal claim their own ever Henri Delaunay trophy.

In an era where the Ballon d'Or has gone to either Lionel Messi or Ronaldo, depending on who out of the pair had the more successful year, it appears the former Manchester United player will snap up the individual accolade for a fourth time. At least, that's according to former Real Madrid and Brazil defender, Roberto Carlos.

"I think Cristiano Ronaldo already has the Ballon d'Or at home but he just has not told anyone yet," he said at a new conference this week.

"He has taken time to get back to being himself after the knee injury, but from now on he will show us all the Cristiano we all know, just like he played for Portugal.

"I wish him all the luck in the world."

Also in the mix for the award is Atletico Madrid and France forward, Antoine Griezmann. The 25-year-old has been in sparkling form this year, playing a key role to Atletico's Champions League and La Liga title tilt.

He was also the top scorer in the  European Championships with six goals, three more than teammates Olivier Giroud and Dimitri Payet.
