Robbie Brady and Jon Walters had a coin-toss to become Ireland's new number 10

Robbie Keane's international retirement left a gaping hole in the Irish team, especially when it came to who would inherit the striker's number 10 jersey.

Norwich City's Robbie Brady was the player to take the iconic jersey, and wore it for the first time in Ireland's 2-2 away draw with Serbia in their opening World Cup qualifier.

Speaking on Monday, after Ireland's training session ahead of the World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Moldova, the Dubliner admitted that he and Stoke striker Jonathan Walters were both looking to take the jersey of Keane.

The Irish-based Squad Numbers Blog has quoted Brady, where he claims he took the jersey after winning a coin-toss against Walters.

"There was a few of us wanting it. Me and Jonny Walters were the last two and he sort of said, ‘You have it’. I said, ‘No, it wouldn’t be fair’. So we flipped a coin for it and I ended up getting it."

Brady will be back in the jersey on Thursday night as Ireland play Georgia in the Aviva Stadium.

You can listen to the game, live on Off the Ball on Thursday night. Kick-off is at 7.45pm, with live buildup starting from the Lansdowne Road venue at 7pm.
