The Airtricity League title race is crystalising

One of the standout moments from Friday night's SSE Airtricity League as Colin Healy's overhead kick was wonderfully captured on camera.

The moment was beautiful. But more importantly it allows Cork City to keep the pressure on league leaders Dundalk and Roddy Collins is excited at the potential prospect of both sides facing off in a title showdown at Oriel Park on the final matchday.

With plenty of football to be played between now and October, Stuart Byrne warns that both sets of players would be better off focusing on the here and now.

"If you start looking at the nitty gritty and you start putting things in players' heads at this stage," he said of Dundalk's recent form.

"You're not going to win a league nine or ten games before the end of the season. You're going to have to deal with things happening around you. You can't depend on other teams to win it for you. That's the worst thing you can do as a player."

While St Patricks Athletic are six points adrift of second, Roddy is not counting reigning champions out of the title race just yet.

But Stuey reckons that injuries are starting to afflict the team and also pointed to signs of frustration apparent, citing Mark Quigley's red card against Cork.

"The one thing Pats did really well last year was they managed injuries really well. It was more down to how they played. They didn't pick up many injuries because of the way they played. They weren't over-physical. Their discipline was excellent. This year is different. Indiscipline is starting to creep in now."
