Rodgers tells fans: 'We’re moving in the right direction'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says he's happy with where the team are going after yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal at Anfield.

The Reds lie 10th in the table and despite no team ever finishing above sixth having been that far down the rankings at Christmas, Rodgers is happy with the improvement in his side.

“Slowly we’re getting back to where we want to get to,” he said. “One defeat in eight I think it is.

"I thought the performance was outstanding ... and importantly for us, the pressing in our game, it’s starting to return.

“The speed of the team is starting to return, the movement. The passing was short and crisp. We’re moving in the right direction.”

Philippe Coutinho put the hosts in front before Mathieu Debuchy equalised and Olivier Giroud gave the Gunners the lead. However, Martin Skrtel scored an equaliser deep in stoppage time.

While delighted with the overall performance, Rodgers was critical of his side’s defending. He added: “A lot of our goals that we gave away, they’re poor goals."

The Ulsterman also said Alexis Sanchez “dived” to win the Arsenal free-kick that led directly to Debuchy’s equaliser.
