Rodgers: FA Cup final win would be perfect send-off for Gerrard - AUDIO

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says “there would be no better way” to send Steven Gerrard off than for the Reds captain to lift the FA Cup on May 30th - the same day as the midfielder’s 35th birthday.

Gerrard announced on Saturday that he will leave the Merseysiders at the end of this season.

Liverpool won at AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup third round last night courtesy of two Gerrard goals and advance to a fourth round meeting with Neil Lennon’s Bolton Wanderers at Anfield later this month.

“The FA Cup final is on his birthday, isn’t it,” said Rodgers. “So there’d be no better way – and for him himself, it would be a wonderful send-off for him.

“We’re still very much in line for that. The idea is to get a cup and if we could do it that would be really special of course.”

Rodgers also admits his side came through a few “scares” to emerge victorious at Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, Dons boss Neal Ardley was proud of his side’s efforts in making a right game of it at Kingsmeadow, and even ended up “disappointed” that they didn’t eke out a replay.
