Roy Keane: Football is the greatest game on the planet, despite allegations of greed and corruption

Republic of Ireland assistant boss Roy Keane has urged fans not to become distracted by allegations of greed, following the Telegraph's investigation into corruption in football.

The investigation has led to the sacking of England manager Sam Allardyce, Southampton assistant boss Eric Black and has cast a spotlight on QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink.

Speaking ahead of Thursday's World Cup qualifier against Georgia at the Aviva Stadium, Keane addressed the recent revelations.

"It's part of the game and when there's so much money involved, there will be greed," he said. "There'll be greed involved when there's money involved but saying that it's still a great game.

"There's some brilliant people involved in football and it shouldn't be tarnished as badly as it has been in the last week or so. A lot of this is still allegations, accusations against people.

"Football is a great game and there's great people involved in it. There's a lot of great managers and great players who do great things for the game. Why do you think so many people watch the game? They love it.

"Every now and then there'll be a hiccup along the way... But it's the greatest game on the planet, we all love it."
