Roy Keane: There's a lack of leaders at Arsenal

Arsenal's Champions League hopes suffered an almost fatal blow on Wednesday night, after a second-half capitulation saw the side lose 5-1 to Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena.

Three goals conceded in ten second-half minutes made Arsenal's second-leg mountain much bigger to climb. While the second-half performance shocked many, Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane said post-most the he was not surprised.

"Did you think they would go to Bayern Munich and get a result?", he asked on ITV Sport. "There's a lack of leaders, lack of hunger, desire. At this level, in this stage of the competition they're not just good enough. There's almost no point in being too critical. They're just not good enough. They've got two decent players. The rest - not good enough."

A former Manchester United and Republic of Ireland captain, Keane pointed out the lack of leadership in Kieran Gibbs. The defender captained the team in the last 40 minutes after Laurent Koscielny left the pitch injured.

"When I see Gibbs with the armband on at the end of the game, you're in big trouble. If he's your captain or your leader - if he's a guy that's going to bring everyone together, you're in huge trouble. I don't think Bayern were at their very best tonight. They didn't have to be. They goals Arsenal gave away - schoolboy stuff."

Arsene Wenger's future at the club remains uncertain beyond the end of the season, amid a flurry of pressure from fans. Keane added that he feels the manager's timidness with players may be affecting their performances.

"We hear that Arsene Wenger doesn't like confrontation. He's doesn't really have a go at players, which I find strange, where you're working with grown men in a dressing room looking to win trophies... Obviously, there's a business side to it, but for me the game is about winning trophies."
