There was a little bit of "the magic of the cup" witnessed on Saturday as Wolverhampton Wanderers stunned the Anfield faithful with a 2-1 win which sees Liverpool knocked out of both cup competitions in the space of a couple of days.

Richard Stearman gave Wolves the lead after 53 seconds when he headed in a free-kick. Andreas Weimann doubled the lead just before half time to stun the home crowd.

Divock Origi scored late on but it was too little, too late and Jurgen Klopp's team exited their second cup competition in a matter of days.

Elsewhere Tottenham Hotspur and Wycombe Wanderers played out an entertaining seven goal thriller at White Hart Lane.

Two Tom Hayes goals had given the visitors the lead before Heung-Min Son and Vincent Janssen leveled things up with 20 minutes to go.

Garry Thompson looked to have won the game for Wycombe when he powered a header past Michel Vorm in the 83rd minute.

However, substitute Dele Alli brought the home side level again before Son struck in the dying seconds of the match to send Mauricio Pochettino's side through.

Arsenal headed to St. Mary's and put Southampton to the sword. Early goals from Danny Wellbeck were followed by a hat-trick for Theo Walcott to give Arsene Wenger's side a 5-0 win.

Richie Towell opened the scoring for Brighton but they eventually lost 3-1 to Lincoln City.

Elsewhere Burnley beat Bristol City 2-0, Chelsea strolled to a 4-0 win over Brentford, Man City beat Crystal Palace 3-0, Blackburn overcame Blackpool 2-0, Middlesborough beat Accrington 1-0, Oxford handed Newcastle a 3-0 loss while Huddersfield beat Rochdale 4-0.
