Sergio Aguero confirms he will leave Manchester City at the end of his contract

Sergio Aguero confirmed today that he will leave Manchester City at the end of his current deal with the club, a contract that keeps him at the Etihad until 2019.

Reports had emerged that the Argentinian striker was close to agreeing a new deal with the club which would keep him in Manchester until the end of his career.

However, speaking to local Argentinian radio station Independient en la Uno, the 27-year-old said he remained open about a move back to Independiente, his first club.

“In the last few months a lot of things have been said about a new contract, but I didn’t pay any attention,” he told the station.

“It’s clear to me that when my contract ends, I’m going to Independiente.

“Here at the club (Man City) they are great with me, they always told me that they were open if the chance of a transfer arises. But where am I going to go in Europe?

“No, when I go, when my contract ends, I’m going to Argentina. From Manchester, straight to Avellaneda.”

Aguero has enjoyed a successful career at Manchester City, winning two League Cups, a Community Shield and two Premier League titles, most notably scoring the winning goal on the final day of the 2011-12 season to give City their first league title in 44 years.
