Shane Duffy: We've got to have the mindset to go out and win both games

Republic of Ireland international Shane Duffy was pleased his Brighton side picked up a point after going behind early against Southampton on Sunday in the Premier League.

Steven Davis put the visitors ahead in the seventh minute before Glenn Murray ensured the home side shared the spoils.

Speaking to Off the Ball's Nathan Murphy after the match, Duffy said: "We were behind in the game early so it was good character to come back and get a draw out of it. They're a good team and we showed we probably could have got the win in the end.

"That's another point in this league and it's a difficult league to get points in - it's another point to our tally and that's how we've got to think.

"I thought I done ok, I felt I could have done a couple of things better. I thought I could have scored a goal but listen, disappointed that we conceded first...listen, the lads played well second half and I thought we controlled it. They didn't have many chances and probably if we didn't concede so early, we would have gone on and won the game," he added.

Looking ahead to Ireland's World Cup play-off against Denmark, the defender said: "They're huge games and something I want to be a part of. Touch wood, I'm fit and healthy and we can get there.

"You never can guarantee anything in football. I've got to perform well at club level and I feel like I'm doing ok and I think Martin is happy with me. You don't know until you get there with form - obviously he could change it, you know what Martin's like. As I say, you never take your place for granted and I never do.

"It's an honour to go there every time and to get called up and to play - it's a bigger honour.

"For me personally, I don't know about other players, I'd just go into it (the play-offs) - two games, got to win both of them and if we win we're at the biggest stage in the world," he added.
