Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is in a serious condition tonight. The Scot had emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage in Salford Royal hospital.
Manchester United Football Club confirmed the news this evening. The club stated that the two-time European cup winning manager had undergone successeful surgery but remains in a critical condition, and that the former manager will face a long period in intensive care.
Man United statement: “Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone emergency surgery today for a brain haemorrhage. The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to optimise his recovery. His family request privacy in this matter."

Ferguson's son Darren was not present at his Doncaster sides 1-0 loss to Wigan, earlier this afternoon.
