STATS: The most damning numbers from Brazil's humiliation

There's no real way to dress up a 7 - 1 defeat and if anything the statistics and graphics will only make Big Phil Scolari feel worse, particularly in the first half.

Scolari teams are always billed as combative but as the game was lost to Germany in the first half, the Brazilians only succeeded with 35 per cent of their tackles and 36 per cent of their aerial duels according to Squawka, with Germany dominating those clashes.

That first half also saw the Selecao create just one chance and just have two shot attempts, one of which was blocked and another by Marcelo which went wide as Brazil pressed in the opening minutes.

All nine of their crosses in that opening 45 failed to reach the intended target.

As Chile showed in the second round defeat to Brazil, Marcelo and David Luiz have been weak links due to their position indiscipline and although Dante was the closest centre-back to Marcelo last night, Germany exploited that left side time and again. All of the crosses for Die Mannschaft came from that zone vacated by Marcelo and as the Squawka graphic directly below shows, half of the assists (in blue) during the opening 45 came from that side.

The Squawka passing map for Germany also shows that much of the action was skewed towards the right hand side of the pitch, with Joachim Low knowing that Brazil were vulnerable in that area.

The heat map shows pretty much the same thing and you can check out more stats from that game and other World Cup matches via Squawka.com.
