Sunday Night Takeaway: Unflappable Leicester continue to soar

It's been a very interesting day off the pitch in English football, but as for the on-field action, the race for the Premier League title and Top Four crystalised further.

Leicester's win leaves them seven points clear on top of the table, while Manchester United's late charge for the final Champions League spot remains very much on the cards.

Unflappable Leicester

So much for no experience in a title race, four of the last five games have shown the Foxes' propensity to grind out a result with yet another 1-0 win.

Southampton were always going to be a tricky challenge, especially in a home tie for a Leicester side which prefers to hit on the counter-attack.

But aside from a Sadio Mane chance and another for Jose Fonte, Leicester limited the Saints' threat and yet again found an all-important goal, this time through stalwart defender Wes Morgan to put themselves seven points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Usually experience counts at this point of a season in a title race, and Morgan and Huth have that in spades, the club are making their own experience as their status changes from surprise package to clear favourites.

Could Rooney upset the applecart?

The form of Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy have many pundits questioning whether the England captain deserves his starting spot at international level as Euro 2016 closes in.

But what of the club scence? With a pacey attack featuing the likes of match-winner Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford, United did enough to edge out Everton 1-0 at Old Trafford today.

Bringing a slower Rooney back into the mix when he returns to fitness will be a temptation for manager Louis van Gaal. But perhaps, putting trust in his speedy wide-men and attackers is the way to go at the captain's expense.
