Swiss attorney general does not rule out raid on UEFA's HQ

The Swiss Attorney General has not ruled out a raid on UEFA's headquarters following allegations of bribery.

Michel Lauber told Sky Sports that a raid on UEFA remained open after its President Michel Platini was accused of taking a bribe from FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

Both men have insisted a payment of £1.35M made from the FIFA boss to his opposite number in 2011 was for legitimate work conducted by Platini for the world governing body nine years earlier from 1998 to 2002.

Blatter released a statement on Monday declaring he had done "nothing illegal or improper," despite criminal proceedings being brought against him by Mr Lauber last week - proceedings that Mr Platini himself assisted as a witness.

On Monday, Platini released a letter he has sent to the 54 UEFA associations about the investigation.

He states in the letter that the probe "may harm my image and my reputation," but insisted the payment was fully declared to the authorities in accordance with Swiss law.

The two men used to be close allies but a rift between them deepened when Mr Blatter broke a promise to leave office in 2015.
Mr Platini chose not to oppose 79-year-old Mr Blatter who won a fifth presidential term on May 29.

But four days later Blatter announced his intention to stand down, with FIFA officials being investigated over corruption allegations by both US and Swiss authorities.
