Teddy Sheringham could be back playing at 49

Seven years since he retired from playing, former Manchester United and Tottenham forward Teddy Sheringham has re-registered himself as a player.

The 49-year-old ex-England international is the current manager of League Two Stevenage FC but has made made himself available to play in tomorrow's Herts Senior Cup game against Welwyn Garden City.

Sheringham last played professionally in 2008 for Colchester United after a career which also took him to West Ham, Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest.

In a statement the club said: "Stevenage FC can confirm that manager Teddy Sheringham and assistant manager Kevin Watson have both been registered as players ahead of Wednesday's Herts Senior Cup tie at Welwyn Garden City.

"This is not an uncommon occurrence at the club, with members of previous management teams playing in this cup competition."

Sheringham was part of Man United's treble-winning side in 1999, scoring in that year's Champions League and FA Cup finals.
