The CONCACAF World Cup teams shouldn't have surprised us

Aside from Honduras, whose gameplan in Brazil seemed to consist of kicking shins rather than footballs, this World Cup has been a revelation for the teams from CONCACAF.

Mexico, USA and particularly Costa Rica have caused a massive stir in Brazil by reaching the knockout stages.

However, the trio's success should not be seen as such a big surprise according to ESPN CONCACAF expert Tom Marshall who joined us again on the latest episode of Team 33.

He detailed how newly crowned Twitter king and Mexico manager Miguel Herrera has lifted a nation off its knees to the pedestal of a sixth consecutive last-16 place, why the USA are on the rise and the reasons Costa Rica have succeeded.

But he also revealed that Central American teams including the likes of Panama, have actually been on the rise behind the scenes.

Episode 12 also sees Newstalk's political correspondent and Sunday Show host Shane Coleman fill in for Dan, plus we talk to Ewan MacKenna about Suarez and Ghana.
