The Final Whistle: Galway book place in Championship hurling final

GAELIC GAMES

Galway today went through to their first All Ireland hurling final since 2012.

Shane Maloney scored a late winning point for the Tribesmen in a 0-26 to 3-16 win over Tippearary at Croke Park.

It was a fine day all round for Galway hurling, with the Minors beating Kilkenny 3-10 to 0-17 in their replayed semi final.

Galway will play Tipperary's minors in the final, after they saw off Dublin 2-17 to 1-15.

Elsewhere, Cork won through to yet another Camogie final with a 4-10 to 1-10 victory over Kilkenny at Walsh Park.

SOCCER

Chelsea are still awaiting a first win of the new Premier League season.

They were beaten 3-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad, with the goals coming from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho.

Earlier, a Damien Delaney own goal helped Arsenal to a 2-1 win at Crystal Palace.

In the Championship, Wolves and Hull drew one-apiece at Molineux

While Reading and Leeds drew a blank at the Madejski Stadium.

Wexford Youths Womens' side have finished their Champions League qualifying round group with a win.

A Carol Breen hat trick helped them to a 5-1 win over Cardiff Met in Poland.

GOLF

Jason Day holds a two-shot lead heading into the final round of the PGA Championship.

The Aussie is 15-under par, while his playing partner for this evening is Jordan Spieth.

The Masters and US Open champion starts the day from 13-under as he looks to secure a third Major of the year.

Rory McIlroy's final round is underway - he's 6-under par.

ATHLETICS

Rob Heffernan has allowed his blood test data to be made public, to show he is not among those accused of doping.

World athletics governing body the IAAF denies claims it suppressed the publication of a survey that found one in three athletes admitted cheating.

The allegations - made in the Sunday Times - come on the eve of the World Championships in Beijing.

Heffernan will defend his 50-kilometre walk title in China, and his eight tests taken between 2001 and 2012 all showed normal results.
