The Kick Off: "A dream come true"

GOLF

Zach Johnson says it's a dream come true to be crowned Open champion.

The American claimed a play-off victory last night - after finishing on 15-under-par alongside Louis Oosthuizen and Australian Marc Leishman.

It was Johnson's second "major" title - adding to the Green Jacket that he won at the 2007 Masters at Augusta.

Meanwhile,

Irish amateur Paul Dunne has said that he can take many positives from his performance at The Open, despite finishing tied for 30th after a final round of 78.

Dunne entered the final round tied for the lead but couldn't hold his nerve and slipped steadily down the leaderboard.

The 22-year-old was one of two Irish golfers in contention heading into the final day, the second was two time Open winner Padraig Harrington.

GAA

Davey Byrne has returned to full Dublin training after sustaining facial injuries during a challenge match against Armagh earlier this month.

The news was confirmed by Bernard Brogan yesterday and insists the team are putting the incident behind them.

“We are moving on. We had a Leinster final in the middle of it and got over it" he said.

SOCCER

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal has refused to confirm why David De Gea and Antonio Valcnia visited hospital on their American tour.

De Gea has been linked with a move to Real Madrid in recent months.

Van Gaal says they're unlikely to play in their next game on the tour against San Jose but wouldn't elaborate as to the extent of the pair's "minor injuries".
