Ex-Chelsea, Everton and Scotland midfielder Pat Nevin and Ireland legend Ray Houghton have had outstanding football careers, while Danny O'Reilly has enjoyed huge success with his band The Coronas.
But all three know exactly what it's like to have a setback early in a career and that is a subject they opened up about on the Saturday panel on Off The Ball.
"I'd been signed by Celtic as a kid and then they pulled me in when I was about 16 and said 'you're too small so we're not going to have you', to which I said 'fair enough, I probably agree with you'. 'So go and get educated' and I said 'that's what I intend to do,'" said Pat, admitting that he the thought of becoming a professional footballer had not really crossed his mind at that point.
Pat started studying for a degree, playing football on the side for the fun of it until a "strange fluke happened" when his team played Clyde FC reserves as he explains on the podcast.
Meanwhile, fellow Glaswegian born footballer Ray also recalled being released by West Ham and the words the manager said to him: "His first words to me were 'Ray, we think you're a good player but we're not going to offer you a new contract'. After that, he may as well have been speaking a different language I couldn't comprehend."
Ray also talked about his journey back to the top of the game following that early setback.
O'Reilly, who played for the Dublin Minors, also spoke about the challenges with establishing The Coronas early on.
