The Weekend in Numbers: Chelsea take on Leicester as opposite ends of the table meet

Ahead of this weekend's football, here are a few of the key numbers that you need to know.

The topsy turvy Premier League laid bare

There's no doubting that this year's Premier League table is shaping up very differently to previous years, but many would have suspected that when Chelsea faced Leicester, one team would be top and the other would be just two points above the relegation zone.

However, most people would not have thought Chelsea would be the ones struggling with their form. Although they stopped the rot with a win over Porto in midweek, the form book suggests that there should only be one winner.

Coming off a loss to Bournemouth, Leicester will surely be eyeing this up as a big three points, and having scored just once in their last four games in the Premier League, Chelsea don't look like they have a lot of goals in them. Even if they do score in this encounter, Mourinho's side don't look best equipped to deal with Ranieri's team, who have scored nine in four games and secured the most points from losing positions this season.

Stoke's defence as impressive as their silky attack

After a performance in which they thoroughly outclassed Manchester City, Mark Hughes will hope that his side don't suffer a hangover as they take on West Ham away from home.

While Bojan Krkic, Xherdan Shaqiri and Marko Arnautovic will cause most defences problems this season, their secret weapon is further back the pitch in the form of Ryan Shawcross: in the 407 minutes he's been on the field for them so far, they haven't conceded a single goal.

However, West Ham have done well when they set up to catch teams on the counter, in particular away from home, and while they'll be in front of their own fans this time, they're unlikely to try and look for a lot of possession with a number of key players missing. In fact, this fixture may well be set up to see both sides cancel each other out.

December hangovers

Many out there might be nursing a hangover this weekend, but it seems that a number of teams are suffering from them too.

Sure, you might have had a few too many shandies at the Christmas party, but Liverpool have been suffering from the Europa League hangover. They've only won one of their matches so far after returning from Thursday night action, and even that came courtesy of a huge slice of luck against a struggling Swansea. They were given a penalty for a handball that was described by Garry Monk as "soft".

Having looked tired in their last two games, including a defeat to Newcastle where they were outrun by their opposition, they would need to break a disappointing run to overcome a resolute West Brom side who have kept six clean sheets so far this season.

They have, however, scored one goal and one goal only in every single match after their European exploits, and with Coutinho aiming to make a return to the team, the smart money could be on the Brazilian to have an impact here.

Wayne Rooney's worst run ever

Manchester United's lack of ability to score a goal has caused them problems all season, but it's finally starting to cost them in a very real sense.

They whimpered out of the Champions League against Wolfsburg during the week, their only goal coming as Anthony Martial scored his first for them in 13 games.

Things don't get any better when you look at the rest of the squad either, in particular when it comes to Wayne Rooney. He is currently going through the worst scoring run of his career in terms of goals per minute.

According to The Football Ramble, Rooney is averaging a goal every 525 minutes. His previous worst was back in 2003, when he was still just a youngster, and averaging a goal every 271 minutes.
