"There might be just that psychological edge that's missing" - John Brewin on Tottenham's defeat to Juventus

Tottenham crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Juventus 4-3 on aggregate following their second leg tie at Wembley finishing 2-1 to the Italian side.

Football writer John Brewin joined Off The Ball after the final whistle, and he claimed that Tottenham paid the price for not loving defending quite the same as the Italian giants.

"Spurs have been taught a lesson there by a team, I mean Juventus haven't lost a game since November, and they're a team used to finding a way to win".

"The thing you have to remember about Italian teams is that they take just as much pride in defending as they do attacking, and maybe that was the difference between the two teams there".

Brewin also mentioned Spurs' potential lack of a mental edge as a reason for not getting the job done, despite holding a one-nil lead with 25 minutes remaining that meant Juve needed two goals to advance, as a one-all draw would have sent the London side through on away goals.

"As soon as that first goal went in Spurs still had that narrow lead through the away goal, but something went wrong maybe in their psychology at that point, and then they made the mistake for the second goal".

"I suppose the question we might ask is, when it comes to the crunch have Pochettino's teams come through? And we start to think about games like the meltdown they had at Stamford Bridge a couple of seasons ago when they were winning two-nil and drew two-all. They lost two West Ham last season on the run-in, there might be just that psychological edge that's missing".
